Good news in the district: District students participate in music career summit

About 100 School District of Philadelphia students participated in this year’s Philadelphia Music Alliance Fall Career Summit – the Process.

Held twice a year, PMA’s career summit provides high school music students with hands-on learning experiences to augment their classroom work, while also learning about the broad scope of music industry careers from professionals in the Philadelphia region, including the creative and business sides of the industry, with a career path focus.

Patty Jackson joins Philadelphia’s Walk of Fame with other icons

Family, friends and fans gathered around the Avenue of the Arts sidewalk to celebrate Philadelphia native and WDAS-FM radio host Patty Jackson being inducted into the 2023 Philadelphia Music Alliance Walk of Fame. She is the first female radio host in Walk of Fame history. “Being inducted into the Hall of Fame means everything to me,” Jackson said. “As a kid from South Philly, I never saw myself being on the radio, but it happened and flourished into a great career.”

Bacon Brothers, Leslie Odom Jr. Have Philly Music Walk of Fame Plaques Unveiled

Something is “Bacon” on South Broad Street as the 2023 class of the Philadelphia Music Alliance’s Walk of Fame are inducted. The Bacon Brothers (a.k.a. “Six Degrees of” Kevin Bacon and his musical sibling Michael) and “Hamilton” star Leslie Odom Jr. headline the 2023 inductees. The stars of not only music, but also movies were on hand midday Thursday to see their plaques unveiled along the Avenue of the Arts.

This Thursday, the Philadelphia Music Alliance will induct its 2023 “Walk of Fame” honorees. It’s a star-studded lineup of homegrown talent. Leslie Odom Jr. is just one of the stars about to earn a bronze plaque on Broad Street. “Philadelphia means a great deal to me,” Odom says. “So to have something like this say that maybe I mean something to Philadelphia is deeply touching.” Odom has paved quite the path from East Oak Lane.

Philadelphia Music Alliance Names 2023 Inductees For Walk Of Fame

The PHILADELPHIA MUSIC ALLIANCE has announced the 2023 inductees for its WALK OF FAME on the city’s Avenue of the Arts, a section of Broad Street south of CITY HALL. This year’s class includes BEASLEY Classic Rock WMGK/PHILADELPHIA host JOHN DEBELLA; iHEARTMEDIA R&B WDAS-F/PHILADELPHIA host PATTY JACKSON; former PENNSYLVANIA Governor ED RENDELL; actor/singer LESLIE ODOM, JR.; the BACON BROTHERS (actor KEVIN BACON and brother MICHAEL BACON); THE TYMES; and the late conductor JAMES DEPRIEST.

Universal Music Publishing Group’s Jody Gerson Honored by Hometown of Philadelphia

Since her time as chairman and CEO of Universal Music Publishing Group (January will mark her five-year anniversary), Jody Gerson has both been given and gifted her share of honors. On Tuesday, Oct. 22, she received recognition by her hometown of Philadelphia: a plaque on the Avenue of the Arts Walk of Fame presented by the Philadelphia Music Alliance (PMA).
